All values are our own assessment based on commonly shared experience – not measurements and not medical advice. Pain and healing depend on your skin, how you feel on the day and how the studio works.

How the spots are spread across the body is shown on the pain chart.

Least painful

These spots have plenty of muscle or fat over the bone – for most people the pain stays very manageable:

Good for fine lines

Calm, taut skin with little friction – fine lines and small details last longest here:

Easy to cover

These spots are usually covered by clothing – good if the tattoo is just for you or for special moments:

Frequently asked questions

Where does a tattoo hurt least?

Our assessment: the forearm, thigh and upper arm. Muscle or fat cushions the skin against the bone there.

Where does a tattoo hurt most?

The ankle and foot, hand and fingers and ribs. Where skin is thin and sits right over bone or many nerves, it gets considerably more uncomfortable.

Which placement heals fastest?

The forearm: the surface there usually closes within 10–14 days. The deeper layers of skin take several weeks longer on every spot.
