Which font suits a lettering tattoo?

It depends on length and placement. Scripts with long flourishes work well for short words and names but need width – the forearm or collarbone gives them room. Old English and blackletter are bold and stay readable at smaller sizes, as long as the letters aren’t packed too tightly. Block letters and serifs are the clearest and carry longer lines.

How big should lettering be?

Rather a little bigger than too small. Ink spreads slightly in the skin over the years: what looks crisp when fresh can blur after ten years if the letters are too small and too close. Fine scripts need more height than block letters. Ask your artist what will hold up on your spot over time.

Why are Chinese characters not available here?

We check Chinese lettering separately before setting it, so that nothing offensive gets set. That check lives in the Tattvue app, which also offers three fonts for Chinese characters and lets you place the lettering on a photo of your spot. This preview sets Latin letters, numbers and common punctuation.
